Stop, Drop and Pop Shawl

Sale price$5.99

This shawl was born out of a challenge. I’d often admired the hand-dyed skeins of yarn that have a mini rainbow flash in an otherwise solid skein – often called zip skeins. In knitting, they produce a flash of rainbow stitches.<br>Because each stitch in crochet wraps the yarn around itself, these flashes can be too short, so I wanted to create a design that really showed off the full beauty of the yarn. I enjoyed having a play and am thrilled with the finished shawl. It's a joy to make with a really easy, repetitive, no-count pattern that's perfect for travel, knit nights, or picking up and putting down again. It works up really quickly, as you will always want to do one more row to see how the pops are scattering. And the finished shawl is surprisingly large for a 1-skein shawl, and the shallow triangle shape makes it very wearable.

If you don’t have a zip skein this would work well with a variegated yarn choosing one color to pop with – you’ll need a color length of around about 15cm/6in to make it work best.

Such a great pattern!

I had my eye on this for a while and when I got a lovely skein with a double flash in a mystery box I found the perfect match. I’ve just started the pattern now and it’s so much fun! The pattern repeat is easy to memorise so once you’ve done the first few rows you are away and don’t need to keep checking the pattern (great tv crochet) and the pops are just wonderful, what a clever idea. Also pattern uses a satisfying amount of the skein as you weigh and then decrease just before halfway left. Highly recommend (as with all my Crochet Project shawls!)

Fun

I loved this pattern. It really gives the yarn an opportunity to shine. The decrease took a bit of thinking but once I’d worked it out it was obvious. I’ve made 2 so far as it’s a perfect one skein make.

Lovely, easy pattern which works well with normal yarns as well as zip yarns. Perfect use of one skein!

Brilliant pattern

I was looking for something that I could make without concentrating too hard.
Lockdown had got me to the point where I needed a distraction, but my concentration was shot.
This design is perfect!
The stitches used are very simple, the increase and decrease are pretty intuitive and the pattern is formed by the yarn itself!
I can see me making more than one of these, in as many colours as possible!
